We are more than half way through October and so far it has been a mild month. The average temperature at the Portland Jetport is running more than four degrees above normal and there has yet to be a killing frost. Friday was another warm day with a high of 68 at the Jetport. To put this in perspective the normal high for October 18th is 58. Now for those of you who would like to see the warmth continue I'm afraid I have some bad news. The upper air winds over North America are expected to undergo a dramatic change over the next few days and evolve into a pattern that promises to bring much cooler weather to the eastern half of the nation as a series of cold fronts move through our region. The first actually went through this morning. The next one will arrive late Saturday night bringing another round of showers. These will come to an end Sunday morning as the cold front moves by with slightly cooler air in its wake. The next front is expected to arrive late Tuesday. Behind this front even cooler weather will arrive for the second half of next week.
