Our long dry spell is at an end

I checked the records and the last time we had measurable rainfall at the Portland Jetport was April 25 when a paltry .02 inches was recorded. There were a few drops last Thursday but not enough to measure. March and April also featured below normal precipitation so this has been a very dry meteorological spring up to now. Therefore I'm happy to say that we do have some rain headed our way for tonight. It won't be the soaking rain that we need but every little bit helps. A slow moving area of low pressure is moving our way but it is weakening as it moves northward so precipitation totals should remain below .25 inches at most locations. The low is expected to be north of us by Friday with a cold front working its way through our region. This should result in a partly sunny day with just a slight chance for a shower. The front is expected to stall over the northeast with an area of low pressure forming on it. This low is going to bring us another round of precipitation on Saturday. If all goes according to plan the low will be gone by Sunday allowing for at least some sunshine for Mothers Day.
