Tonight's weather map is featuring two areas of low pressure neither of which appearing to be very strong. The two systems are expected to merge together on Friday into one very intense coastal storm that promises to bring heavy snowfall to our region. Light snow should break out Friday morning and continue through the day with about 2-4 inches on the ground by dark. If all goes according to plan the snowfall will become quite heavy Friday night and with the wind picking up there should be considerable blowing and drifting snow. Most locations stand a good chance of receiving over 1 foot of snowfall before the storm winds down Saturday afternoon with the heaviest accumulations near the coast. There is still some disparity between the models regarding the track of the storm and it is possible that snowfall totals could exceed two feet near the coast. All the models agree that the storm will wind down late Saturday and by Sunday the sun will return to the sky. Warmer air is expected to move our way on Monday and as is often the case the transition will lead to some rain or mixed precipitation.
