Today was our transition day in that it started out on a cloudy note with scattered showers and then ended up with sunshine. The front that brought the showers is now well out to sea and a ridge of high pressure is going to build over the northeast over the next 24 hours. The ridge is expected to hold over our region right through Friday and then give way to a cold front sinking southward out of Canada on Saturday. This translates into an extended stretch of fine December weather that should feature plenty of sunshine over the next three days and then a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday. Temperatures will top out in the mid to upper 30s on Wednesday and then approach 40 degrees on Thursday. Friday and Saturday are looking even warmer. The cold front is expected to stall over southern New England Saturday night with an area of low pressure forming on it. This low could bring us some snowfall Sunday into Monday as it tracks eastward along the front.
