A cold front moved through our region Friday morning and in its wake strong northwesterly winds transported some rather chilly air into our region. With the wind dying down and the sky clearing we can expect temperatures to reach the 20s just about everywhere by Saturday morning bringing an end to the growing season across northern New England. Temperatures will climb quickly on Saturday under mostly sunny skies but remain below normal for the seventh consecutive day with highs only in the low 50s at best. A ridge of high pressure is going to move by to our south on Saturday and once it goes by us a southerly flow promises to transport warmer air our way. As the new air mass arrives and collides with the colder air in place look for clouds to develop Saturday night with showers breaking out by Sunday morning. Showers are expected to continue on Sunday with the activity winding down in the afternoon as a warm front works its way northward. The warm air behind the front should make for a very mild day on Monday before a cold front gets here and brings cooler air back for the middle of next week.
