HUSSON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Penobscot Community Health Care had its first drug take day Wednesday. Pharmacy students kept track of exactly what types of expired medication was being brought in, with over the counter medications like blood pressure, antibiotics and birth control being the most frequently returned.
"We don't want to flush them down the toilet because it can enter the water system, effect water, effect wildlife, effect our own bodies. We also don't want to keep them in the cupboards, patients could take them inadvertently so we want to get them out of the homes," said Caitlin Murrow of Brewer Medical Center.
The local police department accepts any expired for disposal.
