PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A lease agreement has been reached between the city of Portland and Nova Star Cruises Ltd.
The agreement means Nova Star Cruises would be able to use the Ocean Gateway terminal as the base of its operations for passenger ferry service between Maine and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia Cruises wants to run ferry service between Maine and Nova Scotia seven-days-a-week, from May 1st through October 31st. If approved, the lease would take effect April 15. It would expire October 31, 2016. After that, the lease could be renewed in two-year increments.
More details of the proposed lease will be presented to the City Council's Housing and Community Development Committee during tonight's meeting in City Hall. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
