NORWAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man was cited for riding a snowmobile on open water in Norway today after he attempted to travel through a culverd to get to the other side of the lake.

The man and his snowmobile sunk in the water, but his friends were able to pull him out before he was injured.

The Maine Warden Service and the Norway Fire Department responded to the incident with a tow truck to remove the snowmobile from the water.

The Maine Warden Service is warning those who plan to snowmobile on top of bodies of water to be careful, because the warmer temperatures and the longer daylight hours will begin to thin the ice on all lakes and ponds.
