ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Maine men's hockey team showed why they had one of the better home records in Hockey East this season with their 2-0 shutout of Merrimack in their single-elimination first-round playoff.
Lewiston native Mark Anthoine opened the scoring 2:01 into the contest when the senior forward knuckled a backhander past Warriros goalie Tirronen Rasmus.
Anthoine's classmate Martin Ouellette made that lone goal stand as he stopped all 29 shots he faced.
Leading scorer Devin Shore added an empty goal with 20 seconds left in regulation to secure the win.
The sixth-seeded Black Bears (16-13-4) will travel to Providence for a best-of-three series in the Hockey East quarterfinals next weekend.
