PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Every year CA$H Maine provides free tax preparation.

This year, free tax prep is available for anyone whose household income is $52 thousand or less. Taking advantage of the service could get you money for your child's college fund. The Finance Authority of Maine, or FAME, is teaming up with CA$H to make sure parents are taking advantage of all their programs to save for college.

"Once someone gets a savings account in their name to go to college, they're seven times more likely to go to college and graduate," said Nicole Evans, project director of financial stabiliy for the United Way of Greater Portland. "Which means that they're more likely to be in a job that pays them a livable wage."

To schedule an appointment to have your taxes prepared, you can call 211. There is also a free online service you can access by going to myfreetaxes.com/maine. That service is free for Individuals or families with a combined income of $58 thousand or less in 2013.
