PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Deering High School choir will live out their parents' dreams Tuesday when they sing with the band Foreigner. The popular 1980s band is performing at State Theatre. Even though most of the students aren't familiar with the band, the music teacher jumped at the opportunity with Foreigner's marketing director rang.

"He said that Deering was the first school he was calling," said Gilbert Peltola, the Deering choir director.  "Deering may have just been the first school in the Yellow Pages."

"I was incredibly excited, I almost thought our director was joking," said Kerry Cullivan, a choir member.

"My dad really got excited when he heard I was going to see sing with them, said choir member Kerry Randazzo.

The 26-member chorus will join the band to sing "I Want To Know What Love Is." Foreigner rose to prominence in the 1980s and has recorded 10 multi-platinum albums and 16 Top 30 hits.

"Performing at the State Theatre the most professional performance they've had and it is sold out," said Kathleen Harris, a music teacher at Deering High School.

The chorus members will also help raise money for the Grammy Foundation by selling Foreigner CDs before and after the show.  The foundation helps support music education in high schools nationwide.

"We look forward to our performance with Foreigner and our ability to help support other music programs across the country," said Peltola.

The students said this is one of the highlights of their time in high school and they are excited to meet the legendary band.
