BENTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State Police say a tractor trailer attempting to merge into traffic from the breakdown lane was struck from behind by a second big rig early this afternoon. That second tractor trailer then ended up in the median with its driver suffering a serious head laceration.

Traffic on the northbound side of Interstate 95 in Benton was reduced to one lane and that likely will continue for the evening commute.
The injured driver is 44 year old Larry Edwards from Pennsylvania. He was first taken to MaineGeneral in Waterville and then Lifeflighted to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. His injury was not considered life threatening.
The truck that caused the crash was operated by 63 year old Charles Colpitts from Canada. Colpitts was not injured and he was able to pull his truck to the side of the road.
Both tractor trailers were loaded and remained upright.
