TRENTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Trenton woman was stabbed overnight Tuesday inside her home, and a man was later found in nearby woods with self-inflicted stab wounds. Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor is treating both of them.
Troopers found James Stanton, 48, about an hour after a neighbor reported the stabbing Wednesday morning with severe knife wounds. Troopers, assisted by Game Wardens, located Stanton after following his foot prints in the snow . A Lifeflight Helicopter took Stanton to the hospital and has been charged with aggravated assault. He is now under police guard.
The 21 year-old woman's wounds are less severe. Both she and Stanton live in a house on Oak Point Road. She ran to a neighbor's home about 1:00 am to report the stabbing, and an ambulance transported her to the hospital. State Police are not releasing her name yet. Detectives plan to search the house later Wednesday as they continue the investigation.
