SACO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man is under arrest after an attempted robbery tonight in saco.

Police say, just before 8 o'clock Monday night, Mark Cassette walked into the Saco Bay Variety store on Beach street, showed a knife, and demanded money.

The owner of the store refused, reached under the counter, pulled out a lead pipe, and chased Cassette, who got into a car and took off.

A short time later, Patrolman Kyle Moody spotted a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle and followed it to a home on Wilson Drive in Old Orchard beach.

Police surrounded the house, and about 90 minutes later, a woman inside allowed officers to come in.

Cassette was arrested and taken to Southern Maine HealthCare to be treated for a drug overdose.
