Computer Scam disguised as being helpful

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- These days scams take many forms. With more people than ever connected to the world wide web scams have exploded, roping in unknowing victims.

Sue Civiello will be the first to tell you, she's no computer expert. In fact she really only uses her computer to play games. Right in the middle of one recently an error message flashed across her screen. Then a pop up box asking if she needed help. She clicked on it. The came a phone call from someone willing to fix the problem and clear out any viruses.

The man on the other end of the phone was now controlling her mouse and moving his way through her personal computer. After checking with her internet service provider she learned the caller was based in India.
