PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A snowstorm that's sweeping across Maine has dumped enough snow for the governor to close many state offices early.
Gov. Paul LePage announced that state offices were closing at noon Wednesday in Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, Kennebec, Androscoggin and Oxford counties. Other state offices remained open.
Across the state, hundreds of schools are closed. There were several accidents that snarled traffic, but there were no reports of serious injuries.
Tom Hawley from the National Weather Service said up to a foot of snow is expected before the storm moves out early Wednesday evening in southern Maine and by midnight in Down East Maine.
