FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Fire Marshal's Office is investigating two Freeport fires that broke out right next door to each other within two days.

When Freeport Firefighters arrived at 3 Ware Road around 6:30am this morning, the back of the house was engulfed in flames.

The family got out safely, but their two dogs perished in the fire.

On Sunday afternoon, firefighters responded to a blaze next door at 5 Ware Road.

They believe the first fire started when the homeowner left food on the stove, but because of the proximity of the second fire, both are now under investigation.
