Veterans Day parades will be held in cities including Portland, South Portland and Richmond.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Togus Regional Office is hosting an observance Monday, which will be attended by independent U.S. Sen. Angus King. The ceremony will include the presentation of the colors and an honor guard salute with taps.

In a special video message, Gov. Paul LePage and first lady Ann LePage are thanking Maine veterans for their service and sacrifice. LePage says Maine is home to more veterans per capita than any state other than Alaska.
