PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Voters in Portland have legalized possession of pot for recreational use.
An overwhelming 67-percent of people who cast ballots in Portland said yes to legalizing the recreational use of marijuana by adults 21 and over. They can possess up to 2½ ounces of pot.
Buying or selling marijuana, or using it in public places, remains illegal.
Lawmaker Diane Russell has pushed for this legislation and proposed similar measures at the state level.
