PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - In the middle of September, the last thing Mainers expect is 90-degree weather, but that was the case on Wednesday in Southern Maine.

It seemed like most people were already in autumn-mode (think pumpkin spice coffee, sweaters and chili...for the football games). Most of the people out and about were sweating because they had to. Postal workers and delivery people opted for shorts instead of pants. Men working construction were shirtless under their orange work vests.

Around noon, the Eastern Promenade's grassy hillside was empty. Mothers and their young children were relaxing under the shade of trees, rather than at the playground. Diehard runners were few and far between on Back Cove. This heat wasn't a good sign for business today at the Portland Picnic food truck. Owner Rick Earle says it is usually busier during the week than on the weekend, but on Wednesday, workers were staying in the air condition on their lunch breaks.

Unseasonably hot weather will switch to unseasonably cooler temperatures in just a few days. Like they say in New England, "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute!"
