BREWER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Each day many Mainers face the struggle of living with an addiction. Many count on recovery centers to treat problems with drugs and alcohol. on Saturday several people looked to provide them a helping hand by taking to the open road.

This was the second year that the 'Ride for Recovery' was held in Brewer. Close to 30 people jumped on their motorcycles to raise funds for the 'Bangor Area Recovery Network.' The BARN as it's called provides free counseling and treatment services for people dealing with addictions. The center is totally supported through private donations.

Directors at the BARN say events like the ride can help the agency in more ways than one.

"It's more than just raising money," said Bruce Campbell, who is a board member for BARN, "it is bringing awareness to addiction recovery...giving awareness to the community that we're a resource to the community and also having fun."

"I feel fortunate in that it's {addiction} not as much a struggle for me...as I know it is for other people," remarked Rich Romero, an area biker who took part in the ride, "so if I can be there to help out for other people...like people been out to help for me...that's what it's all about."

Organizers are already saying that this year's 'Ride for Recovery' appears to have been a huge success. As of Saturday afternoon the event raised more than $1,300.
