VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida (WESH) -- The deaths of eight goats has some Lake Helen residents worried a bear could be on the loose.
Rey Ojeda came home to find about half of his goat herd dead. He said each of the goats had puncture wounds to their throats.
"(It's a) massive massacre, especially looking at them, too. The way they're dead, too, so that makes it hard," Ojeda said.
The culprit is a mystery, but Ojeda said it was big and strong enough to tear a hole in his fence.
"(I'm) pretty sure it was a bear or something like that, because a bobcat or something like that won't go through an actual fence," Ojeda said.
Another farm was attacked just 3 miles away a few weeks ago. Four pet goats were killed in that incident, and a miniature donkey was injured.
