SOUTH BRISTOL, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police are investigating a car crash in South Bristol early Sunday morning that left a 55-year-old man dead.

In a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, police said John Galloni from South Bristol was driving south on Route 129 around 12:30 a.m. when his car crossed over into the northbound lane, went off the road, and struck several trees and a rock wall. After hitting the rock wall, the car rolled over and came to a rest on its roof.

Police said Galloni was killed instantly in the crash.  He was the only person in the car, and was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The sheriff's office said blood samples will be obtained by the state medical examiner's office, but deputies believe both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The sheriff's office said the investigation is expected to continue for several days as deputies plan on interviewing potential witnesses who may have information on where Galloni was in the hours before the crash.

Lincoln County sheriff's deputies were assisted on scene by the South Bristol Fire Department and the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service.
