PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) - Red Sox starter John Lackey opted for command and placement in his rehab outing with the Portland Sea Dogs. The result: 3 2/3 shutout innings, three hits, a walk, and five strikeouts.
The power-pitcher topped out at 91 on the radar when mixed in his fastball.
It was the 34 year-old's first game since he strained his right bicep in his season-opener on April 6 in Toronto. It was Lackey's first start in 17 months after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Lackey said, if everything checks out with his arm on Tuesday, he expects to join the Red Sox within the next week or so.
