HARRISON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - There was never any question about re-opening the Untied Parish Church in Harrison, But it was going to take some work.
Early in the morning on September 1st Pat Marceau and his wife Krista arrived to volunteer for the Church Breakfast. Others arrived to find a wet, smokey mess.
When the smoke cleared it didn't look good for a church building that has been around since shortly after the civil war ended. But church members were determined to hold services here again. So they rolled up their sleeves and went to work.
More than 6-months after first discovering the fire, they put the finishing touches on the new flooring and carpeting.
The church doors will re-open, just in time for Easter Sunday.
A church is more about the people who make it up than the building they gather in. Still for members of this United Parish Church it sure will be nice coming back in here for services.
The congregation has been gathering for weekly mass at the community room of the Harrison Fire Department. On Sunday at 10am they will gather for mass back at their church for the first time since the fire.
