PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Food delivery services are taking precautions after a pizza delivery driver was robbed over the weekend.
Police say the driver was delivering to the Olde English Village apartments in South Portland Saturday night, when two men threatened him with a knife and handgun.
Delivery drivers at Pat's Pizza in Portland already take certain precautions when making deliveries. They carry only small amounts of cash on them. If they have any issues with customers, they are advised to call back to the store, where there are procedures in place for the manager or owner to deal with the situation. Owner Chris Tyll says his drivers know that nothing is more important than their safety.
"One of the big things we say here, there is nothing, if someone wants to take the pizza or wants to take the little bit of cash you have, go ahead and take it" Tyll said.
Police are still looking for the public's help in the case.
They say two men who threatened the driver are both black and in their early 20s, around 5'7", thin, and each wearing a red bandana covering their faces, with black hooded sweatshirts and black pants. The third suspect is a black male, approximately 20 years old, about 5'5, 120 pounds with what's described as very crooked front teeth.
Anyone with information is asked to call the South Portland Police Department at 799-5511 ext. 7217.
