JAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The search for a man who police believed was armed and dangerous is over.

Jay Police say Michael Gatcomb fled from them during a traffic stop in Jay on Friday.

They say he first escaped into the woods, stayed there for a couple hours and then wound up staying somewhere in the town of Jay with people he knows.

The search ended Sunday night when police located him in a home on Pleasant Drive in North Jay.

Jay Police say Gatcomb refused to come outside, resulting in a standoff.

Officers from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the Wilton Police Department and the State Police Tactical Team all responded.

The standoff started around 1:15 Sunday afternoon and lasted nearly nine hours.

When Gatcomb refused to leave the home, the tactical team fired tear gas cannisters into the building and rushed in, finding him unarmed.

He's now facing additional charges from the standoff and from fleeing police on Friday.
