AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The director of Maine's energy office is retiring from his job -but he says the LePage administration will still keep a strong focus on energy.

Ken Fletcher says Governor LePage wants to find ways to bring down the cost of energy -especially the cost of electricity. The Governor has said a number of times over the past year that current state laws requiring more use of electricity from renewable sources drive up costs to consumers and businesses.

Democrats say they want to work with the Governor on energy issues, but say any change has to be done carefully. Ken Fletcher says cost of energy must be the top concern. The Governor proposeds several bills to the previous, Republican-controlled Legislature that would have changed some of Maine's electric regulations, but they failed to pass.

Because of Fletcher's retirement, starting next week, the Governor's energy agenda will be led by Patrick Woodcock, former energy advisor to Senator Olympia Snowe. Governor LePage has said his top priorities for this legislative session will be energy, education and domestic violence.
