(NEWS CENTER) - A loud voice in Maine's local and organic farming scene has passed away.
Russell Libby died peacefully at his home in Mt. Vernon Sunday morning. He was 56 years old.
Libby worked with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association for more than 30 years. He served as it's leader from 1997 to November 2012 when he stepped down due to health issues.
If you've heard of MOO Milk - a distribution system for locally produced dairy products - or the Common Ground Fair in Unity, you've heard of Libby's work.
Libby grew up in Hancock County, went to school at Bowdoin and raised his family in Mt. Vernon.
NEWS CENTER's Bill Green spoke with Libby in October as he prepared to step down from MOFGA in October of 2012.
