BUCKSPORT, Maine (AP) - Maine's highest court is hearing an appeal from a Bowdoin man who's serving a 47-year sentence for the 2002 bludgeoning death of a Brunswick teenager.

Olland Reese, 29, was convicted of murder for killing Cody Green, 16, with the blunt end of a hatchet.

Reese is seeking a new trial based on newly discovered DNA evidence. Reese's attorney argues that a lower court judge erred by denying his post-conviction motion for a new trial based on the DNA.

Friday's hearing is being held at Bucksport High School. Justices this week have been holding appeals hearings at high schools in their annual weeklong trek to schools to educate and expose students to the workings of the judicial system.
