PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER)- For the second straight exhibition game, regulation was just not enough for the Pirates. However, this contest didn't go the Pirates way.

Brian O'Neill scored 3 minutes and 59 seconds into the overtime period to give the Manchester Monarchs a 4 to 3 victory over the Portland Pirates.  O'Neill's game winner came immediately after Robbie Czarnik's shot banked off the boards behind Pirates goaltender Chad Johnson and caromed directly to the waiting stick of O'Neill.

The Pirates struck first in the contest on a Mark Louis goal in the first period, and maintained the lead until halfway through the second, when David Kolomatis scored for the Monarchs. Portland would regain the lead with a Power Play goal by Alexandre Bolduc before the second frame ended.

Manchester, however, would not lay down for the Pirates, and capitalized on a double minor assessed to Joel Rechlicz. Nikolay Prokhorkin scored in the midst of the final 2 minutes of the penalty to tie the game up at one on an unassisted goal. Manchester would then take the lead with just 52.5 seconds remaining in regulation on a strike by defensemen Nick Deslauriers. Chris Brown managed to tie the game for Portland with just 23.9 seconds left and force the overtime period, but the Pirates could not muster a single shot in the extra frame.

Chad Johnson played the entire game in net for the Pirates, giving up 4 goals on a total of 34 shots. Peter Mennino started for the Monarchs and played two periods, highlighted by a spectacular skate save on a Jordan Szwarz opportunity and a pad save of a Chris Conner shot, both in the second period. Mennino gave up 2 goals on 18 shots before making way for Jean-Francois Bebrube, who played the final period and overtime, giving up 1 goal on 7 shots.
