BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Adults living with diabetes in the Midcoast region now have a new resource for treatment and education about the disease.
Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick opened its Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology today. Hospital officials say the center provides a wide range of services including medical care and education about proper nutrition, insulin pump training ,and glucose monitoring.
The hospital says there are more than 100,000 people in Maine who have diabetes, so opening a center in the Midcoast to provide care is critical.
"It's a chronic disease that is on the rise in our state and across the country, and more people in our community have diabetes than ever before, and so having that need for that comprehensive care is something we looked at and we're really thankful we will be able to offer that."
Hospital officials say the new center will be able to accommodate upwards of 700 patients in the Midcoast area. For more information about the center, click here.
