DENTON, Tex. (NBC) -- Some Texas homeowners are trying to figure out what the next move is after a demolition crew mistakenly knocked down most of their house.
The crew was supposed to knock down the house across the street after the city ordered it demolished back in January.
A series of mistakes led to the bulldozers knocking over the wrong house.
Only a chance visit by a family friend prevented the whole thing from being destroyed.
Although the family says they no longer lived in the house, it was their residence for 47 years and still had sentimental value.
"Actually, we don't know where we're gonna go now. Do we finish tearing it down and then build another house, or do we just gonna tear it completely and leave it empty? We don't know where we're gonna go," said homeowner Debra Pettus.
The house was partially demolished on April 21.
One report says the demolition process began before the contractor obtained a permit from the city to do any kind of demolition work.
