SACRAMENTO, California (KCRA) -- Sacramento's planning and zoning commission is considering a proposal to demolish the California Automobile Museum and replace it with a new facility.
The proposed two-story facility will include 75,000 square feet to display antique cars and 45,000 square feet of exhibition space for a natural history museum.
The natural history museum will include a 5,000-square-foot area for traveling exhibits.
The California Automobile Museum is currently in old 72,000-square-foot warehouse once used to store tires. The museum leases the property from the city. The executive director says the museum is in negotiations with the city to purchase the site from the city. The final purchase agreement will require city council approval.
