WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WLWT) -- Since she was young, dancing has always been Kayla Pounds' one true passion.

"I thought I would always have dance to get me through everything because dance doesn't die," Pounds said.

Through life's changes, she's always danced - until recently.

"My sister came home for Christmas, and she said, 'Why are you walking with your butt all out; you look stupid,' and I looked in the reflection of the building, and I was absolutely humiliated," Pounds said.

That was two years ago, and now the 20-year-old can barely walk at all. Even sitting down is a challenge, often requiring her mother's help.

Pounds suffers from stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disease that causes muscle stiffness and spasms.

Treatments haven't worked, and Pounds has lost 30 pounds and takes about 30 pills per day.

"It's tough, but I'm getting through it," she said.
