KISSIMMEE, Fl. (WESH) - A child was found sleeping in front a Kissimmee, Florida shopping mall Sunday night and officials say they've taken the toddler's mother and her boyfriend into custody.
Police officers said the 2-year-old girl was sleeping outside the Ross store at the Osceola Square Mall after being abandoned by her mother's boyfriend.
Officials said the child was fine and is now safe.
Deputies said in a news release that they recognized the girl from a criminal mischief call they looked into earlier on Sunday evening.
During that call, the child was in the care of her mother, 20-year-old Stacia Rogers and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Jerry Montalvo.
Montalvo was kicked out of a Motel 9 for throwing a chair through a window in that incident.
He was not arrested because he paid for the window and checked into another motel.
Investigators again located Rogers and Montalvo and arrested them.
Police said Montalvo was high on drugs when he left the child at the store.
The family was apparently staying in a nearby motel room because they are on vacation from Indiana.
Investigators said Department of Children and Families officials would look after her.
Both Montalvo and Rogers were charged with child neglect and booked into the Osceola County Jail.
