PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Gannett Broadcasting has named Steve Carter president and general manager of WCSH-TV.
The announcement was made Monday in Portland by Dave Lougee, President of Gannett Broadcasting.
Carter joins WCSH from KUSA-TV/KTVD-TV in Denver, Colorado, where he was vice president of marketing and promotion. KUSA is an NBC affiliate, KTVD is a MyNetwork affiliate.
Carter joined KUSA in 1992 as promotion writer/producer at KUSA. In 1997, he was promoted to executive producer of marketing and promotion and in 1999, worked his way up to director of marketing and promotion. Carter worked in the same capacity for KTVD after Gannett purchased the station in 2006. He was named vice president of marketing and promotion for the Denver stations in 2007.
Before working at KUSA/KTVD, Carter was promotion manager at KSFY-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
"Steve Carter has an enormous amount of knowledge and experience in local broadcasting," said Lougee. "His outstanding creativity, passion for excellence and exceptional leadership abilities will help WCSH continue providing its award-winning news and community service to Portland and all of Maine. There is no doubt Steve will be an outstanding leader for WCSH."
Carter replaces Steve Thaxton, who earlier this month accepted the general manager position at WCPO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio.
