PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Maine peace and justice organization rallied in support of the uprising in Egypt.
CODEPINK Maine led about a dozen people in a rally in downtown Portland Saturday. The group wanted to stand in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of egyptian demonstrators opposing their government. The group is also urging the U.S government to stop financially supporting the current Egyptian government. Ben Asselin says it's important that Americans stay informed about what is happening in Egypt.
"It's just great to see this pro-democracy movement happening," Asselin said. "We have a great investment in this nation and we need to make sure that our weapons that we have sold Egypt are not being used on the people of egypt.
Some conservative pundits have said that CODEPINK organized the uprising in Egypt. The organization has denied that claim.
