NORTH CONWAY, New Hampshire (NEWS CENTER) -- To defrost from the long winter, some families are escaping to a tropical oasis in North Conway. The indoor water park Kahuna Laguna is consistently 82 degrees and provides the entertainment of being at a beach, minus the sand.

"We've been skiing, and it's a nice change to warm up in the middle of a long winter," said Gretchen Shippee, who visited the water park with her family.

Water park manager said there is 900 feet of slides and a "tiki torch" cafe with adult beverages, similar to a real tropical location.

Indoor water parks have become more popular in the New England area over the last few years, including a new Great Wolf Lodge, the Cape Codder and Jay Peak Resort Pump House.

"I felt like I was back at the beach," said Chris Duarte, a kid visiting the Kahuna Laguna.

Prices vary for each indoor water park and are often discounted for hotel guests if it is at a resort.
