Why was Game 2 of the 1912 World Series stopped with the score tied at 6-6?

The game outlasted the daylight by going into extra innings.  It was played at Fenway Park.  Lights wouldn't be installed there for another 35 years until 1947.

As a result of the tie, it was as if Game 2 never happened.  The Series had to be extended to a deciding eighth game, which the Red Sox won.
