Nostradamus was born on Dec. 14, 1503. His believers point to a line in his writings that mentions the name "Hister" to support their contention that he accurately predicted World War II, roughly 400 years before it happened.
Outside the realm of conspiracy theories, historians have a different explanation for what that name could mean. "Hister" is the Latin name for the Danube River. In the history of the region, a battle was indeed fought there that closely resembles the description laid out by Nostradamus. However it did not happen during World War II but instead during the 15th century, several decades before Nostradamus was born.
