MACHIASPORT (NEWS CENTER) -- Clam harvesting is now part of the major red tide closure in Eastern Maine.
The Department of Marine Resources closed flats Wednesday from Machiasport to the Canadian border. This is in addition to the mussel closure the department announced Tuesday.
Because of additional data the department was able to gather from buoys in Cobscook Bay, smaller bays are still open to clamming.
The Department of Marine Resources reminds the public, any shellfish on the market is safe to eat.
