BUXTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Buxton Fire Department will receive a federal grant to fire additional fire fighters, announced Congresswoman Chellie Pingree Wednesday. There has been a shortage of volunteer firefighters in some Maine towns. This $440,000 grant allows for the hire of 4 full time firefighters.
Low taxes and plentiful land has attracted many people to Buxton over the years, and that has led to an increase in emergency response times. The Buxton Fire Chief says the grant will allow him to add more firefighters during the day, when most volunteers are at their other jobs.
