AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- The federal government will allow propane and other heating fuel delivery trucks to spend extra hours on the roads to make sure Mainers can stay warm.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree says the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is waiving limitations on the hours of delivery for the heating sources due to extremely cold temperatures this winter that have caused demand to spike.

Republican Gov. Paul LePage has signed three limited emergency proclamations this week to suspend federal rules and extend hours for fuel truck drivers. The most recent one expires on Saturday.
