BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- If you are in the market for a furry friend, you may want to head to Brunswick this week.

PHOTOS: New puppies arrive at Coastal Humane Society

The Coastal Humane Society often takes in dogs from overcrowded shelters around the country to put up for adoption. But recently, the shelter received nearly forty dogs and puppies from two different rescue programs. The dogs range in age from young puppies to full grown adults. Penny Meyers says she knew right away that she wanted to take Chihuahua mix named Pookie home.

"I mean, she is just full of life and energy and needs lots of love, and that's what we can do for her" Meyers told NEWS CENTER.

There are two puppies still available for adoption from Monday's batch. On Thursday, another group of adult dogs will become available, and on Saturday, about a dozen more puppies will be up for adoption. The shelter spays and neuters all of the dogs. The dogs will also be fully vaccinated and provided with a microchip for tracking. For more information, visit Coastal Humane Society's website.
