HAMPDEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- When the A and B girls basketball teams at Reeds Brook Middle School heard the Maine women were raising money for Play for Kay, a breast cancer awareness fund, the girls decided they wanted to help too.

The girls held a free throw fundraiser on Tuesday. Community members pledged to donate a certain amount of money for each shot a Hampden player landed.

The Maine women's basketball team came to the event to help keep track of baskets made, and to pass on some skills and advice to the young players.

According to the team, about $5,500 has been raised for Play for Kay so far. If the total reaches $10,000, Coach Barron will shave his head at the women's home game against Binghamton on February 9th. If the $10,000 is raised before tip off, he will dye his hair pink for the game.
