AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Maine General is opening a $250,000 teaching kitchen this week to help the community learn to eat healthier meals.
Danielle Waugh visited the kitchen this morning during the MORNING REPORT.
It's located at the Alfond Center for Health.
The kitchen uses local ingredients whenever possible to make its meals.
This morning, a chef prepared a hearty oatmeal and a butternut squash soup.
The hope is that people will learn from the teaching kitchen that eating healthy is both easy and affordable.
Maine General opens the doors to the teaching kitchen on Wednesday.
There will be cooking demos, recipes and tips from dietitians.
