PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After the demolition of Union Station, an organization was formed to protect the landmarks of Portland. Today the organization installed some banners to mark its 50th anniversary.

The banners are designed to show the evolution of the historic preservation movement. They include an image of the demolition of Union Station-- and the Portland Observatory-- which is a symbol of the organization's success.

The banners will be displayed throughout the year.
