BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- On January 9 at 2:15am Bangor Police observed a vehicle operating erratically on Forest Avenue in Bangor and attempted to stop it to check on the driver.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving at a low speed with the officers in pursuit. A second police unit arrived in the area and the driver continued to ignore lights and sirens and would not pull over. Although speeds never exceeded 25 mph the vehicle, was still operating erratically in a residential area. Spike strips were deployed in an effort to stop the vehicle; however the driver continued driving on his flattened tires.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of Kohl's on Stillwater Avenue and the driver was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.

The driver was identified as Bryan Worcester, 26, of Bangor. After Worcester had been removed from his car, officers observed, and seized, drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance that field tested presumptively as MDPV (bath salts).

Worcester was taken to the Bangor Police Department where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert who determined that Worcester had been operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs

Worcester was transported to Penobscot County Jail and charged with Refusing to Stop for Law Enforcement, Operating Under the Influence of Drugs and Unlawful Possession of a Schedule W Drug. His arraignment is tentatively scheduled for February 12.
