WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- People in Westbrook are rallying around a family who lost their son in a murder-suicide.
Matthew Rairdon died at the hands of his former boyfriend in November. He was a recent graduate of Saint Joseph's College nursing program, and had started his career at Mercy Hospital. The Westbrook community is selling "Westbrook Strong" t-shirts to raise money for a scholarship fund to send a student to St. Joseph's to study nursing.
"Because he loved what he did and he loved St. Joe's, we just thought that was one thing that we could do to maybe help someone else," Rairdon's mother Laurie Rairdon said. "Maybe blow them away at the fact that they could get a good chunk of money to help fulfill their dream."
Between shirt sales and donations, the Matt Rairdon Scholarship Fund has already raised nearly ten thousand dollars. To learn more about the fund, click here.
